Obituary of James P. Raftery

James P. "Jimsey" Raftery, 86 James P. "Jimsey" Raftery,86, of West Orange passed away on Monday July 24, 2017. Visitation will be held on Wednesday July 26, 2017 from 3 to7 PM at The Dangler Funeral Home of West Orange, 340 Main Street in West Orange. In lieu of flowers, donations in his name may be sent to; Wounded Warriors Project, PO Box 758517, Topeka, Kansas 66675. A funeral Mass will be offered on Thursday July 27 , 2017 at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 1 Eagle Rock Ave. in West Orange. Interment will take place at Gate of Heaven Cemetery,225 Ridgedale Ave., East Hanover. NAVY Born in Orange he was a lifelong resident of West Orange. James was a Police Officer for the West Orange Police Department. He was a member of West Orange PBA Local 25. Mr. Raftery proudly served in the United States Navy as a frogman. Jim was an avid hunter and outdoorsman; he also trained dogs in obedience and show. . Jimsey was the beloved husband of 31 years of Emily Raftery (nee Riccardi). Devoted father of Susan Ozols, Dona Maria Raftery, Margaret Gillo and her husband Bob, Mary Byrne, Darleene Cangialosi and her husband John, Thomas Brennen and his wife Dawn, and Timothy Brennan and his wife Linda. Proud grandfather of 16 and cherished great grandfather of 10.
