Obituary of George Eldridge Bailey

George Eldridge Bailey, Jr., 94 George Eldridge Bailey, Jr., 94, of West Orange passed away on Sunday, January 29, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. George was born in Miami, FL in 1922 and raised in Yonkers, NY. In 1950, he and his beloved late wife, Maureen, moved to Hicksville, Long Island. In Hicksville, at the time a new town, George was instrumental in forming the CYO, the town Little League and raising funds for the building of Holy Family Church and grammar school. At Holy Family, he sang in the choir and was active in the Holy Name Society. He also served as Councilman for the town of Oyster Bay, NY. George owned Bailey Lowrey Inc., a surgical supply business, in Bay Shore, Long Island. George was pre-med at New York University before proudly volunteering to serve in the United States Army during World War II. He was a daily communicant at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in West Orange, NJ. George sang Barbershop music for 55 years, the last 38 years of which were with the Dapper Dans of Harmony in Montclair, NJ. George was the beloved husband of the late Maureen Bailey (nee King). Devoted father of George Bailey III and his wife Lorraine, Lisa O'Neill and her husband Jack, Sean Bailey and his wife Barbara, the late Kevin Bailey and his wife Judy and the late Megan Palmer. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. Visitation will be held on Thursday February 2, 2017 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM at The Dangler Funeral Home of West Orange, 340 Main Street in West Orange. Donations may be made in George's name to; Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 1 Eagle Rock Ave., West Orange, NJ 07052. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on, Friday, February 3, 2017 at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Lourdes Church. Cremation will be private.
