Katherine Sheridan, 94 - Katherine "Kay" Sheridan of West Orange died peacefully late Monday evening April 11, 2011 at Saint Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston. Funeral Services will be held Friday April 15, 2011 at 8:30 AM at The Dangler Funeral Home 340 Main Street West Orange, NJ. The funeral mass will be 9:30 AM at Our Lady of Lourdes Church 1 Eagle Rock Avenue West Orange. Interment will be at Gate of Heaven Cemetery East Hanover. Visiting hours will be Thursday April 14 from 3 - 7 PM. Mrs. Sheridan was born in Newark and raised in East Orange. Kay moved to West Orange more than 50 years ago, serving almost 30 years as an elementary school teacher at Our Lady of Lourdes School in West Orange. After retiring she held teaching positions at multiple parish and public schools. She retired from formal teaching in her early 90s but continued informal teaching with the Augustinian Recollects. She was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church, providing service and leadership roles in multiple ministries. Kay was also active in interfaith ministries such as the soup kitchen at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in West Orange. Kay along with her late husband, George Sr., devoted their lives to the well being and education of children. The family would appreciate donations in her name to a charity benefiting children of your choice. She was a constant source of caring and solace for neighbors, friends and family. Katherine was the beloved wife of the late George J. Sheridan Sr. Devoted mother of George J. Jr. and his wife Jill Blackhurst and Kevin J. and his wife Sharon Lee-Sheridan. Loving sister of the late Carmella Caputo, Rose Duganeer, Margaret Blume, Rose Caputo, Lillyan Ciccarelli, Joseph Caputo and Christopher Caputo. Cherished grandmother of Kelsey Anna and Thomas James. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews who have been so caring toward her and whom she loved dearly.
