Joan W. Barker, 91

Joan W. Barker, age 91, passed away peacefully on Wednesday September 4th at Cooperman Barnabus Medical Center.

She was born May 14th,1933 in Paterson to Kenneth and Marion Williams. She was a lifelong resident of West Orange. She first worked as a telephone operator for the phone company. In 1954, she married William Clayton Barker. After raising her two sons, she returned to working as a Doctor’s Assistant for many years then was an assistant to Dean of Students at Bloomfield College. Later in life she was a homemaker and helped raised her two granddaughters.

Joan had an uncanny ability to reach people in a deep and positive way. She never judged and always showed love to anyone who needed it. She is cherished and will be missed by so many.

Joan is preceded in death by her husband and son, William Clayton Barker and William Kenneth Barker. Joan is survived by her son, Robert Barker;  her grandchildren, Tara and her husband Glenn Schroeder of Bricktown, Erin Barker of West Orange; Two great grandchildren Glenn and Gavin; her sister Donna Dolan of Bloomingdale, and the late brothers, JImmy & Joel Williams.  Her preceded son’s lifelong companion, June D’Onofrio.
