Pasquale Scarpino, 106

"Pasquale Scarpino, 106, of Mount Arlington, New Jersey, passed away on June 17th, 2024. Born in 1917 in Catanzaro, Italy, he immigrated to the United States through Ellis Island at the age of 11. Raised in Newark, NJ, he eventually moved to Main Street in West Orange where he lived for more than 60 years with his predeceased wife, Grace Scarpino. He is survived by his children Robert Scarpino and wife Jan, Patricia Freda and husband William and Anthony Scarpino and wife Elisa as well as his brother Louis Scarpino and sister Mary Ranieri and husband Joseph. He was a proud grandfather of six and a great-grandfather of five.

Pasquale worked as a machinist and vacuum pump specialist at the Westinghouse Lightbulb Factory in Bloomfield, NJ before retiring in 1980.

Pasquale was a proud WWII veteran having served in the US Army from 1942 to 1943 as a private first class. He was a successful lightweight boxer (135 lbs), representing company A in the Army. Upon his discharge, he boxed for the local YMCA in Newark, NJ.

He spent his free time tending to his flourishing garden in the yard, growing incredible amounts of fresh vegetables and fruits. He even took this hobby to his senior living facility in Mt. Arlington where he grew fresh tomatoes & herbs to give to the chefs.

The life he lived, the places he’s seen in 106 years on this planet were truly astonishing. He was a strong, brave and loving man. He was the heart and soul of the family and always enjoyed being surrounded by his loved ones. Pasquale was the epitome of a solid role model as a father, husband, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle and loyal friend."
