Apollo Pelalas, 84, of West Orange, NJ, passed away on February 8, 2024.


He was born in Coney Island, NY in 1939 to Peter and Irene Pelalas. Apollo graduated from Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn with a Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering and has an Associate Degree in Applied Science from New York City Technical College. He was a Civil Engineer for New York City Transit Authority for over 30 years. He also served in the U.S. Army as a Construction Engineer at Fort McNair, Washington D.C.


His hobbies included writing music, playing the piano (self taught), math, inventing, and gardening. He was an avid conversationalist who made an impression on almost everyone he spoke to. He also enjoyed spending time with his friends and family especially his grandchildren.


Apollo was preceded in death by his wife Maria Pelalas (Bou), and is survived by his children Paul Pelalas, Joanne Byrne, son-in-law Patrick Byrne and grandchildren Natalie and Kevin.
