Elisabeth Heck Obituary
Elisabeth Heck died on August 28 at the age of 99.
She was born in Oetigheim, Germany in 1924. She, her husband and son emigrated to Newark, NJ in 1956 and lived in the Vailsburg section for five years before moving to Bloomfield, NJ. While there she worked at Wiss Company in Maplewood on the assembly line and some years later as a cashier at the Bloomfield High School cafeteria. In the early 1970’s she and her husband Henry, tired of being landlords, sold their two-family home and moved into an apartment in the same town. From there they commuted to their beloved Beach Haven, NJ home on weekends to enjoy their favorite pastimes: fishing and swimming. In the mid-1980s they retired full-time to Beach Haven, and ten years later settled in Fort Pierce, FL. In 2012 after her husband died, she moved in with her son and daughter-in-law in New Jersey.
Elisabeth’s love of cooking and skill as a seamstress and knitter will long be remembered. Also, as a cherished member of the Port St. Lucie German Club, she was well known for being their sou chef and enthusiastic participant in Schlachtfest and Oktoberfest. Her husband Henry predeceased her in 2012, being married for 64 years at the time.
She leaves behind her son Werner and his wife Betty, three granddaughters and sons-in-law (Sherry and Kevin, Jenny and Brian, and Linda and Mike) and five great grandchildren (Parker, Zach, Olivia, Logan, and Maddie). She is survived by a sister Hilde and brother Karl in Germany, and other nieces and nephews.
