Obituary of Eileen Patricia Condon
Eileen P. Condon (Kearns)
Eileen Condon passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family on Saturday January 14, 2023 at the age of 90. Eileen was born September 15,1932 to Thomas and Helena (Russell) Kearns in Orange NJ.
Eileen was a parishioner of St John Church of Orange, NJ for most of her life. She attended St John’s grammar school and in her adult years, was active member of the Rosary Altar Society and Parish Council. Eileen graduated from Immaculate Conception High School in Montclair, NJ. In more recent years Eileen’s parish was Saint Joseph’s in West Orange where she was a daily communicant. Eileen was a member of the Seton Hall Prep Mother’s Auxiliary, Mount Saint Dominic Academy Parent’s Assoc., St John Soup Kitchen and Livingston YMCA.
Eileen’s treasures in life were her Faith, family and countless friendships.
On March 3, 1962 Eileen married Jimmy Condon (predeceased August 1.2022), the love of her life and undeniable soulmate. They were married for 60 wonderful years. Eileen was the devoted mother to : James (Jimmy) wife Anna, John (Jackie) wife Pauline, Mary Catherine Callaghan husband Joseph, Eileen Kohaut husband Matthew, Michael wife Bernadette. Cherished grandmother and true friend to : Jason, Dana, Louis, Henry (Harry), Michael, Helena (Nellie), Kerry (deceased), Catherine, Sarah, Shane, Jaqueline, Bernadette, Shannon, Matthew, Daniel, William ,Kate, Thomas, Lucas, Caroline and James (Jimmy) and four great grandchildren.
Loving sister to: Kathleen Asselmeyer and Sarah Bald. Predeceased by: dear husband James (Jim) Condon, sisters Mary Smith and Elizabeth Ann Kearns, and loving brother Thomas. Elieen is survived by many loving nieces and nephews, countless in-laws and loving friends.
Eileen and Jim would raise their family in West Orange, NJ. For more than 55 years, the dead-end street of Mountainview was their home and it proved to be a “gem” of a neighborhood to raise their five children. Eileen was one of many matriarchs of the block that positively impacted all who lived there, young and old.
Eileen was the loving CEO of her family. As a stay-home mom her family wanted for nothing. Eileen spent countless hours traveling and transporting her children and their friends to ballgames, concerts, camps, etc. In spite of having a busy household, Eileen always made time to maintain and create new friendships, help a neighbor in need or visit the sick. She unselfishly put others needs before her own.
As grandparents, Eileen and Jim once again spent hours supporting and helping with their grandchildren’s needs and activities. Eileen and Jim were well known to so many of their grandchildren’s friends and family.
Throughout her life Eileen was blessed with and created friendships that stood the test of time. To say Eileen had and outgoing personality would be an understatement. Everyone, truly EVERYONE that met Eileen Condon (Grandma) was attracted to her personality, amazed by her energy and befriended by her for the rest of their lives. Her magnetism was like no other.
Eileen, at the age of 90 years young, continued to remain active, participate in her children’s and grandchildren’s daily life, visit with old friends and family, and of course, make new friends. Most recently, Eileen resided in Livingston, NJ.
Eileen cherished time spent gathering with family and friends, Lavallette vacations with the McNulty’s, trips with girlfriends to Florida, various get-aways with other couples and her childhood memories of New Rochelle. Grandma loved the Outer Banks vacations, when all her family would be in one house. She loved to take a walk on a beautiful day and it was even better if she was at the beach.
Hours before her passing, as she was being wheeled into surgery, she was actively engaging with those caring for her. The staff amazed with her attitude and kindness asked “What do you attribute your 90 great years to?” Eileen’s reply was “Having God in my life and love of my family and friends”
Eileen was grateful for the life she had and we are grateful for the impact she had on everyone she knew. Our memories of her are truly a gift.
