Gloria M. Monfiglio of West Orange NJ, passed away on February 14, 2022, at the age of 83 years old, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on December 25, 1938, in Uruguay and was 1 of 12 children to Gabino Carreras and Julieta Giacoy.  In April 1969, she immigrated to New Jersey from Uruguay with her husband, Nelson, where they raised their three children, Claudia, Carlos, and Washington. Gloria spent over 30 years working as a jeweler at Robert Fisher Co. in Newark, and her talent as a jeweler allowed her to create beautiful pieces for her and her family throughout the years. Upon retiring, Gloria spent most of her time with her grandchildren and family, spoiling them with her incredible cooking (especially her empanadas and milanesas), while also taking time to enjoy her gardening. 

Gloria is predeceased by her son, Washington, and loving husband, Nelson, of almost 58 years, whom she married on March 6, 1964, in Montevideo, Uruguay.  She is survived by their two children – daughter, Claudia, and husband, Manny, and son, Carlos, and wife, Lina –, 6 grandchildren – Emily and Nicholas Da Cruz and Sofia, Marco, Amelia, and Mateo Monfiglio –, her two sisters, Mirta and Marta Carreras, as well as many nieces and nephews, who all love her and will miss her greatly.

Friends are invited to celebrate her life from 4-8pm on Thursday, February 17, 2022, at Dangler Funeral Home - 340 Main Street West Orange, NJ.  A funeral service will be held at 11:15am on Friday, February 18, 2022, at St. Rose of Lima - 345 Ridgedale Ave. East Hanover, NJ with interment to follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover.
