Obituary of Theresa Selesky
Theresa Selesky – Beloved wife, devoted Italian “Ma”, proud grandma, dear friend and devout Catholic
Theresa Porzio Selesky, 78 passed away at Saint Clare’s Hospital on November 22, 2021 after a long illness.
Theresa was born on June 14, 1943 to Anthony Salvatore Porzio and Emilia Talucci Porzio in All Soul’s Hospital in Morristown. She was a lifelong resident of Boonton and parishioner of Our Lady of Mount Carmel, Boonton, NJ. She graduated from Boonton High School in 1961 and married John C. “Jack” Selesky of Avoca, PA on May 12, 1963 at Saint Catherine of Siena in Mountain Lakes. She was an Associate of the Sisters of the Sorrowful Mother in Denville, NJ.
Theresa was a dedicated wife for 58 years, a loving mother, and a dear friend to all. For the past 21 years, she spent her proudest moments with her grandchildren and was often called “grandma” by everyone that knew her. Theresa loved going on cruises with her family and spending time with friends. She loved listening to Neil Diamond music and enjoyed watching Hallmark movies. No matter the time, she would always have food ready for her grandchildren, and they would watch recorded TV shows together.
Throughout the years, she was known for being an incredible cook and always enjoyed having people surrounding her at the dinner table. Her meatballs and chicken cutlets with cornflake breading were second to none. The moment you walked in her house, she welcomed you and made you feel at home. She was very proud of her Italian heritage and enjoyed passing on traditions to her children, grandchildren, family, and friends.
She had wisdom, knowledge, and a deep faith in God. She never missed weekly Mass and was never far from a Rosary and her Novena book. She always had a strong faith and firmly believed in the power of prayer. Her unwavering faith carried her through her long illness with the support of family and friends. She never lost sight of God.
She was predeceased by her parents Anthony and Emilia and her sister Rose Ann Porzio. In addition to her husband Jack, she is survived by her daughter Adriane Selesky Eoga (Michael Eoga) of Boonton, John D. Selesky (Leisha) of Blairstown, and her grandchildren Jenna Emilia Eoga, Juliana Marie Eoga, Kara Marie Selesky and Carly Rose Selesky and many cousins. She is also survived by many friends who she loved as her own family, especially Father Richard Carton, Dr. Michele Dimaira, Yvetter Fernander, and Becky Stotler.
The family of Theresa would like to thank Dr. Arthur Sheppell who was her physician since 1986 as well as Dr. Dean Licopantis, Dr. Jason Levitz, Dr. Barry Eppinger and all of the healthcare workers who took care of her throughout her long illness.
Visitation will be held on Friday, November 26 from 4-8 PM at the Dangler, Lewis and Carey Funeral Home, 312 West Main Street, Boonton, NJ 07005.
