John Michael Fitzgerald, 77

 

John Michael Fitzgerald, 77, of West Orange passed away on Tuesday, August 31, 2021.   

Visiting will be held on Wednesday, September 8, 2021 2:00 to 4:00 & 6;00-8:00 PM, with a funeral service at 7:30 PM at The Dangler Funeral Home of West Orange, 340 Main Street. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made in John’s name to: Autism Speaks 1060 State Road, 2nd Floor, Princeton, NJ 08540. https://www.autismspeaks.org.

John was born in Newark and raised in Orange before moving to West Orange. He was an Essex County Probation Officer for 33 years. John was a member of FOP Local 52, the Ancient Order of Hibernians, and the West Orange Elks BPOE 1590. He played varsity baseball at Seton Hall University and graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree. John was also an avid Yankee Fan.

John was the beloved husband of 27 years to Jerri Fitzgerald (nee Hoyt). Devoted father of Christine Petrat and her husband James, and Kevin Fitzgerald and his wife Nicha, and stepsons Brian and John Hagerty. Loving brother of Joan Schessler, Nancy Fitzgerald, Mary Jane Patterson, and Jacqueline Czekaj. Cherished grandfather of Ian, Nate, and Clay. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
