Dolores Marie Otero, 77

Dolores Marie Otero, 77 of West Orange, NJ, died at 11:45am on Saturday, September 26, 2020, at the Arden Court Assisted Living Facility in West Orange. She passed peacefully on a sunny autumn morning with her family at her bedside. Dolores was born in the Bronx, NY, on July 23, 1943 to Alfred and Millie Della Volpe.  She grew up in the City in a large family with a younger sister, Lorraine, and five older half-siblings.  She graduated from St Catherine Academy in the Bronx and soon after finishing high school met her life-partner and loving, devoted husband, Carlos Otero, when they were both working in the New York Court System.  They were married on May 9, 1964 and shared their life together.

Dolores and Carlos dedicated themselves to the upbringing of their two children, Camille and Alfred. Together, they made the difficult decision to leave their beloved New York City neighborhood and raise their family in the more bucolic and rural confines of Sussex County, New Jersey.

Dolores was a pillar and the foundation to her entire family.  She was strong, stalwart, loving and caring to all, a dedicated wife, mother, sister, aunt and grandmother.   Dolores was an extremely hard and diligent worker, she loved to entertain, and she loved to spend time with family and friends. She retired from the role of Office Manager at St. Raymond’s Cemetery in the Bronx after a 25+ year career with the Archdiocese of New York. Dolores was a remarkable cook and baker and was well known for her Christmas dinners and other holiday feasts with family and friends.

Along with her two loving children, Camille and Alfred, to whom she passed on her strength, work ethic, and deep love of family, Dolores was also blessed with a loving daughter-in-law, Jennifer and three adoring grandchildren, Lindsay, AJ and David.

The visitation is from 2PM until 6PM on Tuesday, September 29, 2020 at the Dangler Funeral Home located at 340 Main Street, West Orange, NJ. A funeral mass will be celebrated at 10AM on Wednesday, September 30, 2020 at Our Lady of Lourdes RC Church located at One Eagle Rock Avenue in West Orange, NJ.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer’s New Jersey, 425 Eagle Rock Avenue #203, Roseland, NJ 07068 or at www.alznj.org.
