John Edward McGuire, 86
John E. McGuire, 86, of West Orange passed away on Saturday, August 31, 2019 at his home surrounded by his loving family.
Visiting will be held on Wednesday, September 4, 2019 at The Dangler Funeral Home of West Orange, 340 Main St. in West Orange from 3:00 to 8:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John’s name to; Foundation for University Hospital Trauma Survivor Program, 150 Bergen St. D209C, Newark, NJ 07103
A Funeral Mass will be offered on Thursday, September 5, 2019 at Saint Joseph’s Church, 44 Benvenue Ave., West Orange at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover.
John was born in Orange and was a lifelong resident of West Orange. John was a retired West Orange Police Officer for West Orange Township. He proudly served in the United States Army during the Korean War. John was a Gold Star Brother (James McGuire who died in Korean War), and was on the Army Boxing Team. John was a member of the West Orange PBA Local #25, Life Member of the West Orange VFW Post 376, the Giblin Association, the Cryan Association, Alcoholics Anonymous since 1963, and Local #68 Operating Engineers.
John was the beloved husband of the late Mary May McGuire (nee Corcoran). Devoted father of Mary Rixey and her husband Bill, Eileen Burke, Catherine Altieri and her husband Louis, James and his wife Laura, John Jr., Anne Egan and her husband Daniel, Bridget Nash and her husband William, Patricia Agront and her husband Hector, Michael and his wife Jennifer, Noreen Fabiano and her husband Michael, Kenneth and his wife Annemarie, and the late Sheila Appello, and father-in-law of Anthony Appello. He was also the loving brother of Fred McGuire and his wife Sheila, Nina Zimkus, and the late James Patrick McGuire. He was the cherished grandfather of 25, and great grandfather of 4, he is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
