Jose Maria Antunes, 90

Jose Maria Antunes, age 90, died on Friday, June 22, 2018 at his home in West Orange, New Jersey. He was born in Tomar, Portugal and was the second youngest of 6 children. He immigrated from Portugal in 1972 and originally resided in Newark, New Jersey before moving to West Orange in 1981. He worked as a machine operator in manufacturing. He was an avid fan of soccer and playing board games with his granddaughters. He was predeceased by his parents Maria da Gloria Antunes and Manuel Antunes and his siblings Antonio, Manuel, Armando, and Maria da Gloria Antunes. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Maria Zaida Antunes (nee Santos), caring sister Maria de Jesus Calado, devoted sons Eurico Antunes and his wife Anabela and Helder Antunes and his wife Elisabete. Dear grandfather of Cynthia Hajduk and her husband Ricky, Michelle Antunes, and Nicole Antunes. He is also loved by his cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, June 24, 2018 from 2:00 to 6:00 PM at The Dangler Funeral Home of West Orange, 340 Main Street in West Orange.  In lieu of flowers donations may be made in Jose’s name to the American Heart Association. A Funeral Mass will be offered on Monday June 25, 2018 at 10:00 AM at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 1 Eagle Rock Avenue in West Orange. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery and Mausoleum at 340 Ridge Road in North Arlington.
