John Martin Healy, 84 - John Martin Healy, 84, of Glen Ridge, formerly of West Orange, passed away on Friday July 5, 2013. Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday July 10, 2013 at The Dangler Funeral Home of West Orange, 340 Main Street, West Orange at 9:00 AM, then to Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 1 Eagle Rock Ave., in West Orange for the Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in East Hanover. Visiting will be Tuesday from 4-8 PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in John's name to Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 1 Eagle Rock Ave., West Orange, NJ 07052. John was born in Orange and lived in West Orange before moving to Glen Ridge 30 years ago. He was the Principal at North Junior High School in Bloomfield. John graduated from Saint Benedicts High School, then Seton Hall University and received his Masters from New York University. Throughout his career as an Educator he was a Teacher as well as a Guidance Counselor, ending his career as Principal. He was a member of the NJEA and the NEA, and the Senior Softball League of Essex & Morris, also playing in Florida. While playing on the Senior Softball League 75 and older he was a Gold Medal Winner at Pittsburg, PA and a Silver Medal Winner at Orlando, FL. John was currently President of The Holy Name Society of Our Lady of Lourdes Church. He served on the Parish Council, was a Lector, Eucharistic Minister, Chairman of the Heritage Room, and was an Altar Server at Our Lady of Lourdes Church in West Orange. He was also on the Our Lady of Lourdes Church Grotto Committee. John was the 2007 Recipient of the Marnell Award from Our Lady of Lourdes Church. John was on the West Orange Recreation Old Timers Committee for over 20 years. He was a Summer Colgate Field Counselor for many years. John also received the William E. Boland Award from West Orange High School. John was also a published author, writing a book about West Orange, " West Orange During The Depression and War Years." Mr. Healy proudly served as Corporal in the United States Army during the Korean War. While serving our Country he was awarded The United States Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal. John was the beloved son of the late Martin and Anne Healy. He was predeceased by his loving brothers Patrick and Malachy. John is survived by his sister-in-law, Jennie Healy, and several nieces and nephews.
