John A. Diveny Jr. , 88 - John A. Diveny Jr. of West Orange died on Thursday October 14, 2010 at Saint Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston. Funeral Services will be held on Monday October 18, 2010 at The Dangler Funeral Home of West Orange 340 Main Street at 9:00 AM then to Our Lady of Lourdes Church for the Funeral Mass at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at Immaculate Conception Cemetery in Montclair. Visiting will be Sunday 3-7 PM. Letters of condolence may be posted at danglerfuneralhome.com. Mr. Diveny was born in Orange, raised in Montclair before moving to West Orange many years ago. Mr. Diveny was a graduate of Immaculate Conception High School in Montclair class of 1941 He was a letter carrier working for the United States Post Office in Upper Montclair for 30 years before retiring in 1978. After retiring he worked for the West Orange Board of Education. Mr. Diveny served in the United States Army from 1943-1946 where he received a Good Conduct Medal, and the WW II Victory Medal.. He was a member of the Our Lady of Lourdes Church Holy Name Society, the Mr. & Mrs. Club, he was also a Sexton and an Usher, he was the recipient of the Msgr. Nicholas A. Marnell award in 2006, and a member of the Montclair Knights of Columbus Council #1277. Mr. Diveny was an avid Mets, Notre Dame, Seton Hall Basketball and NY Giants fan. Mr. Diveny was the beloved husband of the late Anne Marie "Nancy" Diveny. Devoted father of Joanne Garifo and her husband Joe, Brother Paul Diveny O.S. B. of Saint Mary's Abbey / Delbarton, Mary Loftus and her husband Patrick, Theresa Dempsey and her husband Raymond, Carol Crate and husband Robert. Loving brother of Doris O'Reilly, Edwin, Frank, Thomas, Ann Towey and the late Paul, Patricia Quinn and Elizabeth Manna. Cherished grandfather of Shannon, Matthew, Kevin, Thomas, Christopher, Jeanne, Daniel, Sean, and the late Anthony.
