Obituary of Santina C. Marotta

SANTINA MAROTTA Devoted Daughter and Wife, cherished Mother and Sister Santina Marotta (née Chiarella) entered eternal life on November 1, 2017, the Solemnity of All Saints, from her home. She was born in the "Italian colony" in Orange, NJ and moved to West Orange in 1930. She was the cherished wife for 54 years of Albert F. Marotta and a devoted mother to Albert and his wife, Michele, of Bloomfield; Tina Staveris, and her husband Anthony of Nutley; and Ann of Santa Clara, California. She is survived by her dear sisters, Elaine Alfieri and Vivian Petrillo. Also, she was a beloved aunt to her many nieces and nephews. Mrs. Marotta was a faithful parishioner of St. John Roman Catholic Church, Orange for over 85 years. She taught with the Confraternity of Christian Doctrine (CCD) program at the parish school during the 1950s. She was a graduate of West Orange High School, Class of 1941. Mrs. Marotta worked for Ketcham & McDougall, Inc., then located in East Orange. Later, she joined the staff of the Social Security Administration in its offices in Newark, East Orange, and Jamaica, NY and stayed until she became a mother to completely dedicate her life to her family. Mrs. Marotta was pre-deceased by her sisters, Concetta D'Aries, and by her brothers, Thomas, Michael and Joseph Chiarella. Viewing will be at Dangler Funeral Home, 340 Main Street, West Orange on Sunday from 3-7 pm A Funeral Mass will be offered for the repose of her soul at St. John Church, 94 Ridge St., Orange on Monday at 10 am, followed by entombment at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover. In lieu of flowers, please donate in her memory to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital/Tribute Program, P.O. Box 1000 Dept. 142, Memphis, TN 38148-0142. She will be gratefully remembered for her love and devotion toward her family, for her care, concern, and sound advice and for her quiet, prayerful Catholic way.
