Brian William Collinson

October 22, 1952 – July 30, 2026

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Brian William Collinson, who left this world peacefully on July 30, 2026, at the age of 73. Brian lived a life filled with laughter, music, love, and a deep appreciation for the beauty of the outdoors.

Born on October 22, 1952, Brian spent his childhood in West Orange, New Jersey, where he formed lifelong friendships and memories. He graduated from Mountain High School before continuing his education at North Eastern University in Boston, Mass. Brian dedicated 33½ years of service to NJ Transit, where his strong work ethic, reliability, and commitment earned the respect of his colleagues. He retired in 2015, leaving behind a career he was proud of with the “Din Crew”. 

In the 1980s, Brian made his home in Hazlet, New Jersey, drawn by his love of the shore and the peaceful rhythm of the Ocean. Some of his happiest moments were spent standing in the surf with a fishing rod in hand, enjoying quiet summer mornings and crisp fall evenings by the water. He found joy in life’s simple pleasures—casting a line, tending to his flourishing garden, listening to his favorite jazz and rock records, and playing his beloved saxophone. His green thumb and appreciation for nature reflected the patience and care he poured into everything he loved.

Brian was known for his larger-than-life personality. He had a booming laugh, a generous heart, and an unmistakable presence that could light up any room. He loved deeply, laughed often, and lived unapologetically. His family and friends will forever remember his stories, his music turned up just a little too loud, and the countless memories created simply by being together.

Brian was predeceased by his loving parents, Joan (Giordano) Collinson and William “Bill” Collinson; his beloved cousins, Kristin Collinson; and Paul Peluso.

He leaves behind a family who adored him, including his children: Brianna and her husband, Matthew; Daniella and her husband, Patrick; and Jacob and Allura, along with their significant others. He was a proud and devoted grandfather to Jayce, Lyla, Kane, and Theo, each of whom brought immeasurable joy to his life. Along with his Ex Wife/ Friend Lois Kohut Collinson. 

He is also survived by his brothers, Daniel Collinson and his wife Joan and his Twin Wayne Collinson; his cherished cousins, Sherri Collinson Peluso; Patrick and Pamela Collinson; their son, Andrew, his fiancée, Danielle, and their children, Raegan and Reed; and Patricia and her husband, Paul. Brian also leaves behind many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and countless dear friends whose lives were enriched by his friendship, humor, and unwavering spirit.

Brian’s legacy will live on in every cast into the ocean, every garden in bloom, every saxophone melody, and every song played just a little louder in his memory. Though he is no longer with us, the love he shared and the memories he created will remain in the hearts of all who knew him forever.

A Celebration of Life will be held on August 23, 2026 from 12-5pm at Ravello 138 Eagle Rock Avenue East Hanover, NJ 07936
