Eve Maseng

Heaven opened its gates on July 2, 2026 to welcome Eve Maseng to Paradise.   Eve was one month shy of her 98th birthday.  Eve Maseng was born on August 27, 1928 in Mt Prospect, Illinois.   She was a longtime resident of Orange, New Jersey.    Eve spent her final weeks at St Vincents Nursing home in Cedar Grove, NJ when she no longer was able to stay in her apartment at the South Orange Towers on Scotland Road, where she resided for over 30 years. Everyone in her building complex knew and loved Ms. Eve.  She had a kind word and a smile for everyone.   

Eve had a brother Lars who pre-deceased her.   Married later in life, her first husband was Al Tonelli, now deceased. She helped Al raise and guide his two daughters: Lynnette Marie Tonelli (deceased) and Margaret Vagueiro (deceased).  She married a second time many years later and found peace, care and affection from her beloved husband Ben Jablonowski.  Unfortunately, Ben died in 1998.  Eve’s step children from marriage with Ben include:  Laurel Kutzenco (Stamford, Ct), Linda Cacicedo and James Jablonowski. 

Eve was a long-time member of Our Lady of the Valley Parish in Orange, NJ. She was faithful on Sundays and attended all parish functions as often as possible.   She was a member of the Salesian Cooperators of Orange, NJ.  She loved St. John Bosco’s spirit and the Salesian way of helping others    She believed that true grace came from serving the needy. 

Eve Maseng will be missed by parishioners from Our Lady of the Valley.  She will also be missed by members of the Salesian family.  She will be remembered fondly by the residents of the South Orange Towers.   She will be missed by Fr. Steve Ryan SDB, whom she prayed for every day for the last thirty years.  Eve always said something when taking leave of someone—“Go with God.”  She would say.  Now, we say the same to her—“Go with God, Eve!”  

Visitation is at Dangler’s Funeral Home , 340 Main St in West Orange on Wed July 8th from 5-7 pm. The Funeral Mass is on Thursday July 9th at 10:00 am at Our Lady of the Valley Church on Orange NJ.   Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery in Mt. Arlington.
