Edward “Eamonn” Joseph McGovern April 24, 1940 – October 3, 2025

Edward “Eamonn” Joseph McGovern, 85, passed away peacefully in Whippany, New Jersey, on October 3, 2025.

Born in Swalinbar, County Cavan, Ireland, to Edward and Bridget McGovern, Eamonn immigrated to the United States in 1956 in search of opportunity and adventure. With the support of his Uncle Frank, proprietor of McGovern’s Tavern, he began his working life as a bartender and waiter, where he quickly became known for his charm, wit, and easy conversation. He later joined Rheingold Brewery in Orange, NJ, and went on to enjoy a long and dedicated career at Anheuser-Busch in Newark, where he ultimately retired. Ever hardworking, Eamonn also spent many years employed by NJ Transit while working full-time at Anheuser-Busch.

Eamonn was a devoted member of Our Lady of Lourdes Church in West Orange, where he volunteered regularly at bingo nights and built lasting friendships within his parish community. A proud Irishman, he remained a loyal supporter of Cavan football throughout his life.

Eamonn was the beloved husband of the late Mary Darcy McGovern. He is survived by his beloved children, Eamon (Linda), Sean (Jennifer), Deirdre (Keith), Patrick (Kelly), and Cathy; his cherished grandchildren, Saoirse, Ciara, Mairead, Shane, Jack, Aidan, Dylan, Elton, Maggie, Molly, Grace, and Olivia; and his adored great-grandchildren, Caoimhe and Fiadh. He is also survived by his sisters, Maura, Patricia, and Carmel. He was predeceased by his siblings Frederick, Geraldine, and Theresa.

Eamonn will be remembered for his hard work, sense of humor, deep faith, and the love he shared with family and friends. His legacy lives on in the generations he inspired and the kindness he showed to all who knew him.

He will forever be remembered as “the baby whisperer.”
