Frank Capron Obituary

Francis J Capron Jr. — “Frank”—died surrounded by family on September 25, 2025, at the New Jersey State Fireman’s Home in Boonton, NJ. He was 94.

Frank was born in June 1931 in Orange NJ to Francis and Florence Capron and was a lifelong West Orange resident. After high school, Frank served in the United States Army with the 45th Infantry Division out of Norman Oklahoma during the Korean War. He saw combat in the Yonchon-Chorwon area and in sectors fronting Old Baldy, Pork Chop Hill, Heartbreak Ridge, and Luke's Castle. Frank earned the rank of staff sergeant (E6) and received the New Jersey Distinguished Service Medal for his service in combat. He was proud of that every day.

Frank also served the West Orange community as a career firefighter for 39 years, attaining the rank of Director and Chief. His time on the West Orange Fire Department defined him. He dedicated himself to leading a professional, effective fire service, and he was committed to his fellow firefighters. His favorite color was red. Frank was also a man faith. He was an active parishioner of Our Lady of the Valley Church in Orange NJ, where he devoted himself to volunteering his time and skills to parish ministries.

Most importantly, Frank was a family man. Nothing made him happier than spending time with his wife, his kids, and his grandkids. Frank is predeceased by his wife Ann O’Connor Capron and his sisters Carol and Dorothy. He is survived by his brother William; his daughter Mary Taylor and her husband Michael; his son Frank III and his wife Karen; and his seven grandkids: Alana, Anna, Caitlin, Daniel, Emma, Francis IV, and Michael—who were the light of his life. Frank will be missed by all.
