Obituary of Laura Byrne

Laura Nicolina Byrne, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, passed away on March 19, 2025, at Cooperman Barnabas Medical Center in Livingston.

Born and raised in Newark, Mrs. Byrne moved to West Orange 47 years ago. She was a graduate of Montclair State Teaching School. She dedicated many years to her career as a teacher in the Newark Public School system while lovingly raising her eight children. In addition to her teaching, Laura devoted much of her free time to volunteering with various clubs and organizations. She was an active member of the Rosary Altar Society, West Orange Prime Timers, and several other groups. She also contributed to her community as a Sunday School teacher at Our Lady of The Valley Church.

Laura had a passion for the arts and loved spending her summers at the Ginney Dunkle Pool, where she enjoyed relaxing with family and friends. She was a season member of the Paper Mill Playhouse Theater, where she shared her love of theater and the arts with those around her. Laura also enjoyed attending events and shopping with her many cherished friends.

Laura was predeceased by her loving husband, James J. Byrne, and her dear sister, Elodia Grassano. She is survived by her children: Jimmy; Eddie and his wife, Val; Patty; Johnny; Joey; Tommy and his wife, Krissy; Laurie; and Bonnie and her husband, Jimmy. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Mario Grassano, loving aunt of Mark and Angela Grassano, Chris and JOann Grassano,a nd Dana and TOny Santarella.

She cherished her role as a grandmother to Gina and her husband Luke Mohammed, Bryan and his wife Lindsay, Joey and his wife Brittany, Michael, Rylee, James, and Lia, and as a great-grandmother to Luna, Dante, and Kiran. Additionally, she leaves behind many beloved and cherished nieces, nephews, and their children. Laura was blessed with a large family and deeply cherished her bond with each of them.

Laura will be remembered for her unwavering dedication to her family and community, leaving a lasting legacy of love and service

Visiting for Laura will be held on Sunday March 23, 2025 from 2:00 to 6:00 PM at Dangler Funeral Home of West Orange, 340 Main Street in West Orange.

A Funeral Mass will be offered on Monday March 24, 2025  at 11:00 AM at Our Lady of the Valley, 510 Valley Street in Orange.

Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, 225 Ridgedale Ave. in East Hanover.
