Obituary of James John Bowman
James J. Bowman, 78, of West Orange, NJ, passed away peacefully on March 12, 2025. He was born on August 28, 1946, in Orange, NJ, to his loving parents, Florence H. Bowman (Penn) and John J. Bowman.
James was a devoted husband to Claire E. Bowman, sharing 38 wonderful years of marriage. He is survived by his brother, Joseph Bowman of Verona, NJ; his daughter, Elizabeth A. Page; his cherished grandchildren, Robert, Paul, and Brian Hernandez; and eight beloved great-grandchildren. He also leaves behind his niece, Denise Monahan of Manchester, NJ, and his nephew, Edward Price.
A proud graduate of West Orange High School, James went on to serve his country honorably in the U.S. Army. After completing his military service, he worked as a bartender around town and then for PSE&G for 10 years before joining the West Orange Board of Education, where he remained until his retirement in 2006.
James was a dedicated member of the Elks, where he served as a Lodge Officer, bartender, and Home Corp officer. His commitment to his community was further recognized when he was honored as Elk of the Year in 2009-2010.
James was known for his warm spirit, infectious energy, and ability to bring joy to any gathering. He was truly the life of the party and will be deeply missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
A service to honor and celebrate James’s life will be held on Wednesday March 19, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Dangler Funeral Home of West Orange.
With Military Honors at 3:00 PM and the Elks Funeral Service at 5:00 PM.
