Colonel (Ret) John F. McLean posted a condolence
Saturday, June 19, 2021
My condolences, all bite a bit late. As a very young Second Lieutenant I was assigned to Company”B” 2-102 Armor (West Orange Armory) and had the honor and privilege to serve under (then) Captain Fahey. As my Company Commander he not only trained and mentored me he (with other fantastic NCO’s and Officers) provided me with a strong foundation and Esprit de Corps that guided me through my entire military career, culminating in the rank of Colonel. I will always be great full for his leadership, mentoring and friendship. You will always be remembered. God bless you and God Speed.

Ronald S. Fahey Deputy Chief West Orange Police was a great Police Officer, and Father. My Dad who worked with him tells the same story about Ron. When our house burned down at 156 Main Street on October 22,1973 leaving 12 Kids homeless Ron put 500.00 dollars in my Dads front pocket with zero interest if you know what i mean. My Dad grew up on Elm Street with the entire Fahey Family.Class act Family.

Very sorry to hear of Ron’s passing. He was a part of my life since I joined the guard in 1965. He was the most squared away person I have ever known and a born leader and administrator.
He was my superior for most of my adult life and tried hard to keep me in line though that was a tough job for anyone. My wife Pat and I send our prayers to the family.
Ps this condolence is the fifsttime I ever referred to him asRon!

Ron was always quick to share a story about life in West Orange, especially his boyhood memories of growing up on Elm Street. As a boy Ron and his brothers were friends of young David Cassidy who lived with his mother Shirley Jones in the house next door to us on Elm. Ron loved to tell about playing marbles with David and friends and walking home with many prized marbles. A few years ago Mr. Cassidy was performing at the Paper Mill Playhouse when Ron sent a note back stage from the Elm St. Gang. The family was invited backstage for a few hours of storytelling and reminiscing. Ron would tell this and many stories like it with such enthusiasm you felt like you were there with him.
What a great man, it was an honor to call him neighbor and friend.

Very sorry to hear of Mr. Fahy’s passing. He always wanted me to call him by his first name, but as he worked so many years with my dad, I had to use “Mr. “ as a sign of the respect the man had earned and deserved.
I am sure that as all the Laing’s learn of Mr. Fahy’s passing not a dry eye will there be.
Condolences to all.
