Obituary of Patrick Dennis Forsyth

Patrick D. Forsyth, 59

Patrick D. Forsyth, 59, of Bloomfield, died in a pedestrian traffic accident in Bloomfield on Friday, January 11, 2019.

Born in Montclair, NJ, he was raised in West Orange and had lived in Bloomfield since 2000.

He joined Local 68 of the International Union of Operating Engineers in 1983.  He was a loyal, dedicated and active member of the union and a shop steward, and was recently honored for his 35 years of service.

When it came to giving back to his community and the world, Patrick was always the highly-skilled, level-headed person with a ready smile and easy wit.

Over the last 15 years, he helped organize and volunteered for many Habitat for Humanity projects in places like New Orleans and West Virginia, and closer to home in Newark and Morris County.   He was actively involved in the community outreach efforts at Grace Episcopal Church in Nutley.

He was a life-long fan of the New York Mets.  One of his great joys was attending games at Citi Field, whether the team was doing well or not.

Patrick was predeceased by his parents, Francis Gregory Forsyth, Sr. and Bernice V. Murphy Forsyth.

He is survived by his wife, Alice Forsyth, his soulmate since they first met in 1975; his siblings, Kathryn Forsyth and her husband, Edward F. Liston, Jr., Frank Forsyth and his wife, Carla, and John Forsyth, and his wife, Julie; his brothers-in-law, Michael Estler, and his wife Kate, Timothy Estler and his wife Danielle, and Joshua Stroh; and many cousins and other relatives.

Pat was a favorite uncle of his nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews, and the children and grandchildren of his cousins and friends, who all called him “P4” and loved him as a playmate and pal.

He will be greatly missed by his family, his many dear friends and union colleagues, and many others whose lives he enhanced, both through his volunteer work and by being an extraordinarily kind, compassionate and generous person.

Friends are invited to join Patrick’s family on Tuesday, January 15, from 4:00 p.m. – 8:00 p.m. at the Dangler Funeral Home of West Orange, 340 Main Street, West Orange.  https://dangler.danglerfuneralhome.com/

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 16, at Grace Church, 200 Highfield Lane, Nutley, NJ.  Interment will be at Mt. Hebron Cemetery in Montclair.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Habitat for Humanity would be appreciated by Patrick’s family.
